Cumbria is a Labour council with the the Conservatives in second place and the Lib Dems having a substantial base of the 16 councillors to the Conservatives 26. This seat was fought in a Conservative area however there was a huge surge to the Lib Dems. This was, therefore an excellent result.  If these type of results continue the party could look to replace the Conservatives as the second party in Cumbria and challenge Labour for power.
